Do Startups need more interns for their next employee?
Every companies including startup always need more employees especially because of their growth. Most of them prefer to hire experienced candidate than junior talent or even fresh graduate who has no job experience at all. It takes more time to train the junior and fresh to be able to solve the problem on time. But, hire experienced one also takes a lot of things such as bigger salary and more benefits.
Something interesting finally happen to solve the problem. Startup will recruit the intern for months and then probably to hire them as permanent employee. It will need small effort because interns can be paid much lower compared to the employees. They will be paid normally after appointed as permanent. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
What will the interns do?
Of course this intern method need time to make sure they are able to work as employee. Giving them manual jobs such as checking out the excel and article are simple thing can be done by the interns. Slowly but surely they will get more job with harder level.
Any side effect of hiring intern?
The interns are really something to jumpstart their careers. Startup also provides a growth path for the candidates especially who are proactive and out of the box. Moreover, interns are charged to have more responsibilities while working, because sometimes Startup is lack of something, compared to the big companies who are ready for everything.
After several months, the interns can be assessed by the supervisor or manager. It means to make sure they will be appointed as employee, extend the contract or even cut them. Usually, if the interns are given clear job since the beginning and more attentions, they should be able to be an employee.
Interns who finally become employee should work harder but they are totally appreciated for their success on intern program. Besides they already know about the Startup culture and ambience, so that they don’t need more adaption when start working as employee.
What do you think now? Better to hire interns or not? The choice is on your hand.
