How Long to Stay Working in Startup?
Currently, there are so many Startups anywhere. Many people change their job from corporate to be Startup employees. It looks good since they want to do something new and challenging by joining here. But, it leads to the question, how long to stay working in Startup?
Working in Startup is actually something new. Perhaps it started 10–20 years ago and of course it is different to work in corporate or governmental area. That’s why a lot of people tend to be job hopper when they are working in Startup. Is it good or bad?
What does a job hopper mean?
People choose to be job hopper means if they work only for short term and shift on another job. Probably it happened years ago in corporate. But if talking about working in Startup, it occurs many times. Usually people work only a year or 2 years and then move to another. Even, there are also works less than a year. Surprising?
People work only for short period because they want to find new challenge or maybe wish to be paid more. Yet, a year is not enough to give performance to the Startup since so many things change dynamically. They are not patient to wait for the best time.
People like that usually will do the same after accepted in the new company. Of course, from one Startup and move to work in another Startup again.
How to handle this?
Being a job hopper is a habit happens anywhere including in Startup. None can prevent except themselves. To be honest, no prohibition to work in Startup for short term. But it looks bad because people are considered as non-loyal employee. Maybe it will bad note for some HR after receiving new CV from them.
It is better for people to be patient. Give the best performance first when working in Startup before deciding to stay or leave. It takes time and they have to enjoy the process, since in the new place they will find the same cases again.
Only if offered by another Startup or probably competitor, it is okay to say yes and leave.
So, what do you think? Can you be patient?
